Mrs Madden in Victoria to Lilian – 29th September 1929

January 24th, 2016

Victoria, British Columbia.
Sunday, 29th September, 1929

My dear Lil,
Your sorrow is indeed a great one, and because I think I can understand a little of what the anguish must be to you, to part with so dear and helpful and beautiful a child, that I am writing this to try and comfort you, for it is sometimes hard to see or believe that love is at the back of it all.

Your very love for her is one and the same as God’s love to you and to me, therefore this thing has happened – however terrible in itself to you – for her good, and also, in some strange way, for yours too. Do try to believe that, for I know its true and you will find it so some day.

Try and thank Him for taking her out of so hard and difficult a world, to where her life will continue with all its young zest, in the service of Him and the dear ones who have gone before.

So do not be too sad. It is for her a promotion, and to you, perhaps, a call to God’s very side, to where she is.

”Come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest”

I am writing this quite alone and with only perfectly sightless eyes, so forgive all blunders and don’t write back if you don’t want to. I shall understand.

May God comfort you and give you light to find Him with.

Yours affectionately,

Evelyn Madden
